Job summary

The Payroll Specialist at Smurfit Westrock in Duluth, GA will process hourly and salaried payrolls for US employees across multiple states and pay frequencies. The role requires in-office presence a minimum of 3 days per week and involves ensuring tax compliance, time data accuracy, and HRIS entries (PeopleSoft).

You'll handle direct deposits, deductions, and SOX controls while maintaining payroll records and responding to employee inquiries.

Qualifications

• CPP or FPC designation is highly preferred.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Union payroll experience would be helpful
• 3-5 years of full-cycle payroll administration in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with multi-state payroll taxes, including CA, OH, PA
• Knowledge of payroll practices and HRIS systems, including PeopleSoft
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills across employee levels across units

Responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely payrolls for all employees.
• Process payroll transactions and prepare file loads for hourly and salaried payrolls.
• Enter direct deposits, tax data, and deductions into the system.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
• Resolve employee questions and discrepancies regarding payroll.
• Serve as SME for US payroll-related issues.
• Maintain payroll records and databases.
• Follow SOX controls for payroll processes.
• Maintain time & attendance data for payroll processing and reporting.
• Pull and load payroll time files into the system (PeopleSoft).
• Meet payroll deadlines and ensure data accuracy across locations.
