Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Referral Specialist to coordinate patient referrals, obtain insurer authorizations, and ensure timely communication with specialists and patients. You will manage scheduling and documentation in LifeChart while following practice protocols and ensuring data accuracy.

Working with the Practice Manager, you will support front-office operations, maintain patient flow, and participate in quality improvement initiatives in a Providence setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of clinical referral experience preferred.
• Data entry and computer skills required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Schedule/coordinate/triage referrals via LifeChart work queues.
• Set follow-up alarms per practice protocols to ensure follow-up.
• Obtain un‑resulted consults and testing orders managed by referral office.
• Alert ordering provider of patients missing appointments.
• Scan correspondence into medical records and route to the correct provider.
• Take messages, create referrals in LifeChart, and forward to PCP for approval.
• Maintain knowledge of insurer referral authorization requirements.
• Participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
• Attend required meetings and trainings.
• Provide front office knowledge for triaging referrals and patient flow.
