Brown University Health is seeking a Referral Specialist to coordinate patient flow, schedule referrals to specialists, and obtain insurer approvals. The role requires handling Lifechart referrals and ensuring proper documentation for each patient’s care cycle.

Responsibilities include triaging referrals, following up on outstanding items, and communicating appointment details to patients. Strong organizational skills and familiarity with medical office processes are essential.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge: High school degree or the equivalent.
• Two years of clinical referral experience required.
• Data entry skills and computer experience required.

Responsabilités

• Schedule, coordinate and triage referrals via Lifechart work queues.
• Set follow-up alarms and tracking for outstanding referrals.
• Obtain un-resulted consults and testing orders managed by referral office.
• Alert ordering provider of patients missing appointments.
• Scan all correspondence into the medical record and forward to reviewing provider.
• Take messages, create referrals in Lifechart, and forward for PCP approval.
• Inform patients about appointments and provide pre-appointment instructions.
• Maintain knowledge of insurer referral authorization requirements and show cultural awareness.
• Serve as a resource to practice team on referral issues.
• Participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
• Attend required meetings and trainings.
• Perform other duties per physician practice manager instructions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of front office operations in referral triage.
