Job summary

New York City Police Department is seeking a qualified City Research Scientist to support the Department Advocate's Office in prosecuting disciplinary matters with strong data analytics and reporting expertise. You will design and evaluate disciplinary tracking systems, develop dashboards, and deliver clear analyses to stakeholders.

The role requires advanced degrees in sciences or public health, experience in research, data handling, and programming (SQL, Python, R, Power BI).

Qualifications

Master’s degree in a physical, biological, environmental science or public health.
Level II+ requires doctorate or master’s with extensive research/ supervisory experience; or equivalent plus at least two years in the role.
All candidates must have at least a master’s degree in an appropriate field and two years of relevant experience (Level II).

Responsibilities

Test changes and document results for disciplinary tracking system improvements.
Conduct trend analysis and support research and database projects.
Assist with development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports.
Articulate data findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
Monitor key metrics for case flow procedures and assess effectiveness.
Identify trends and demographics to help NYPD discipline its workforce more proactively.
Prepare reports with detailed analyses and findings.
Lead long- and short-term analytic projects to support transparency and case resolution.
Collaborate with Attorneys to build process flows and tracking tools for cases.
Prioritize deadlines based on data requests and sources.
