Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a City Research Scientist to support surveillance, program evaluation and data reporting. You will work with program staff to develop data collection tools, perform analyses in SAS/SQL/R, and present findings to leadership.

You will maintain Power BI dashboards, develop new visualizations, and ensure data quality while incorporating an equity lens across projects.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental science or public health.
• Doctorate degree with specialization and experience in supervisory, administrative or research capacity (for higher level).
• Experience with public health systems and recovery-oriented practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with program staff and IT to refine data collection instruments and data systems.
• Develop measurable program metrics for operational performance.
• Process and analyze data using SQL, SAS or R; maintain data dictionaries and data quality checks.
• Prepare routine reports and visualizations of program performance for leadership.
• Maintain and update dashboards with Power BI; assist in new dashboard development.
