Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a City Research Scientist to advance data-driven public health surveillance for drug-checking initiatives. You will analyze datasets, develop new methods, and support data management and reporting across internal and external audiences.

Ideal candidates hold advanced degrees in public health or related fields and have strong experience with R, SAS, REDCap, and data visualization tools like Tableau.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in public health or related physical, biological or environmental science.
• PhD/DrPH preferred for higher level assignments.
• Two years as City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required.

Responsibilities

• Extract, clean, and analyze data using R, SAS, REDCap, Excel, and other platforms.
• Collaborate with drug-checking technicians for QA data checks and continuous quality improvement.
• Support Senior Data Scientist in designing new analyses for drug-checking surveillance.
• Contribute to database design and maintenance, including queries and data entry procedures.
• Prepare data products and reports for internal and external audiences.
• Assist with IRB applications and manuscript development.
