Job summary

The Pine School is seeking a Substitute Teacher in Hobe Sound, FL. You will carry out lesson plans and classroom procedures in alignment with the Teacher, delivering age-appropriate instruction to Elementary or Middle School students.

This part-time, non-exempt position requires the ability to maintain a positive learning environment, strong communication, and reliable classroom supervision in various settings around the school day.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to develop rapport with students and communicate effectively.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Comfort with basic computer use.

Responsibilities

• Follow the lesson plans of the absent teacher to deliver engaging lessons.
• Assign classwork and homework as prescribed.
• Use appropriate instructional methods to meet objectives.
• Maintain a positive learning environment for students.
• Supervise students in hallways, lunch, recess, and dismissal as needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by administration.

Summary Description

The Pine School Substitute Teacher is responsible for carrying out lesson plans and classroom procedures, as set forth by the Teacher, in an engaging and meaningful way. The Substitute Teacher will ensure a quality learning experience for all children in his/her care and must possess the knowledge and theoretical grounding necessary to instruct Elementary or Middle School students using age-appropriate methods, strategies, and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow the lesson plans of the absent teacher and ensure optimal, engaging learning for students.
• Assign classwork and homework as prescribed by the teacher.
• Employ instructional methods and materials most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
• Maintain a positive learning environment for students.
• Manage classroom behavior and ensure that students make progress toward learning goals for the day.
• Supervise students outside of the classroom, in hallways, at lunch, at recess, and at drop off and pick up, if required.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by administration.

Qualification Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree and teaching experience are preferred.
• Ability to develop rapport with students and exhibit enjoyment in working with students.
• Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency.
• High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere with both adults and children.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must have an audible voice and adequate hearing and vision to supervise the students, both indoors and outdoors. Sufficient mobility and agility are needed to interact with children. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
