Job summary

Newberry Community School is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide classroom instruction and maintain a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher. This role implements lesson plans, supports educational continuity, and helps ensure student safety and engagement throughout the school day.

The ideal candidate will follow established plans, maintain routines, manage student behavior, document activities, and communicate effectively with administration.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of successful experience working with children.
  • Meet one of: Associate degree or higher; OR 60 credit hours; OR state-approved assessment test.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Provide instruction to students in assigned subject areas.
  • Maintain established classroom routines and procedures.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Administer assessments as directed.
  • Review daily plans and schedules with the building administrator or designee.
  • Consult with the building administrator before implementing procedures not specified in lesson plans.
  • Supervise students during assigned instructional and non-instructional periods.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by law, school policy, and administrative procedures.
  • Assist with clerical duties as assigned.
  • Follow all school policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position is responsible for implementing lesson plans, managing student behavior, ensuring student safety, and supporting educational continuity throughout the school day.

Full Day rate - $125
Half Day Rate - $62.50
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience working with children.
  • Must meet one of the following
    • Associate degree or higher; OR
    • Completion of at least two years (60 credit hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; OR
    • Successful completion of a state-approved assessment test.

Working Conditions
