Job summary

Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, NM is hiring a Unit Secretary/Nursing Tech to support the nursing unit with clerical duties and direct patient care tasks. The role operates the EMR system and coordinates communications under the supervision of the nursing leadership.

The position requires a high school diploma and BLS certification, with preferred candidates having CNA/MA training or 6 months of patient care experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) required at time of hire.
• Preferred: specialized training in basic patient care (CNA, Medical Assistant, Nursing student who has completed a skills lab) or at least 6 months experience in direct patient care.
• Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions.
• Maintains current certifications in required emergency response training.
• Complete all organizational, department of Nursing and Department-specific competency training/requirements within specified timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Courteously greets and directs customers; promotes and facilitates accurate and timely unit communication.
• Answers telephones and efficiently processes information; redirects calls to appropriate parties.
• Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in the patient record; transports patients and documents actions.
• Inserts and removes non-medicated IV therapy lines under licensed provider direction; performs phlebotomy after training.
• Applies fiberglass splints, casts and traction devices; performs bedside testing (oximetry, ECG, Glucometry, urinalysis).
• Scrubs and sutures wounds under licensed provider direction.
• Performs wound care and dressing changes; prepares patients for surgery.
• Transports specimens, x-rays, blood and equipment; delivers to Laboratory and Pathology.
• Performs other duties as needed.
