Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a full-time Administrative Clerk for the Emergency Department in the Birmingham area. The role supports clinicians with order entry, patient scheduling, chart assembly, and general clerical duties.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, routing calls, coordinating meetings, and maintaining staff schedules in hospital information systems. A high school diploma or equivalent plus experience is required; BLS is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or 1 year of relevant experience required.
• BLS Provider certification preferred (AHA or Red Cross accepted).
• Strong communication and clerical duties ability.

• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol.
• Schedule patients for individual appointments in a timely manner.
• Assist with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges.
• Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

Job Description

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and performs other general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointment and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings/schedules meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
