Job summary

University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide comprehensive advising and student-success support to undergraduate COB students. You will help students understand degree requirements, plan progress toward graduation, and navigate University processes.

The role may include START program assignment and reports to the Director of Undergraduate Student Success, collaborating with campus partners to promote enrollment and success. Hybrid work arrangements may be available.

Qualifications

• Two years or more of experience in academic advising or counseling, student services, or related field.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain academic requirements, policies, and procedures clearly.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage high volume of student contacts.
• Judgment, initiative, attention to detail, student-centered service.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
• Proficiency with common office technology and ability to learn student information systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising on degree requirements, course selection, and registration policies.
• Help students develop semester-by-semester plans considering goals and progress.
• Advise transfer students and map prior coursework to degree requirements.
• Guide students in selecting business majors and connect with Career Center.
• Navigate processes and resolve issues affecting registration or progress.
• Monitor progress, identify barriers, and connect students to resources.
• Document advising interactions accurately in information systems.
• Plan and participate in orientation and recruitment activities.
