The role involves advising on courses, transfers, and policy interpretation, supporting special student populations, and participating in professional development activities. 100% appointment percentage; NCAA and university policies apply.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of academic advising and counseling and related degree programs; a bachelor's degree is required, master's preferred.
  • One year of experience in a counseling-related environment is necessary.
  • Written and interpersonal communication skills are essential to interact with students.
  • Personal computer knowledge is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students on courses, class loads, course changes, withdrawals, transfers of credits, eligibility for credit by examination and time extensions.
  • Provide general advisory and vocational information to students and assist in distributing information.
  • Assist in administering advising programs for specific student groups (e.g., students with special needs, evening students, probationary students, foreign students).
  • Assist with in-service training seminars for advisors, faculty interns, graduate assistants and student advising assistants.
  • Assist Departmental advisors concerning academic policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate on University committees.
