Job summary

Thompson Engineering seeks a motivated Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our inspection and quality assurance team. This role conducts welding inspections and ensures code compliance on various construction and industrial projects across the Southeast.

The position requires travel to project sites, including multi-state assignments, and field work to support active construction operations. Strong inspection skills and documentation are essential.

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI certification is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years welding inspection experience preferred.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1, API 1104, and ASME IX.
• Strong communication and field documentation skills.
• Valid driver's license with clean record; travel frequently.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual welding inspections per codes and project specs.
• Verify WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications and documentation.
• Interpret drawings, welding symbols, and specs.
• Document findings, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate NDT activities as needed.
• Prepare daily field reports and inspection summaries.
• Travel to various job sites including multi-state assignments.
• Follow safety policies and quality control procedures.
• Communicate with PMs, field staff, contractors, and clients.
