Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a motivated Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our inspection and quality assurance team, performing welding inspections and ensuring compliance with codes and project specs across Southeast projects.

The role requires travel to project sites, including multi-state assignments, and field work to support active construction operations. You will document findings, coordinate NDT, and interact with clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years welding inspection experience.
• Working knowledge of welding codes such as AWS D1.1, API 1104, and ASME IX.
• Proficiency with MS Office and digital reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual welding inspections in accordance with AWS, ASME, API codes and project specs.
• Verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Confirm welder qualifications and maintain required documentation.
• Interpret construction drawings, welding symbols, and technical specs.
• Document inspection findings, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate and monitor non-destructive testing (NDT) activities as required.
• Prepare daily field reports, inspection summaries, and supporting documentation.
• Travel to various job sites, including out-of-town and multi-state assignments.
• Follow safety policies and QC procedures; ensure quality control on site.
• Communicate findings and status with project managers, field staff, contractors, and clients.
