Job summary

Thompson Engineering in the Southeast is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our inspection and quality assurance team. This role performs welding inspections and ensures compliance with codes, project specs, and industry standards across construction and industrial projects.

The position requires travel to project sites, including multi-state assignments, and field work to support active construction operations, with opportunities to coordinate NDT

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in welding technology or related field is preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of welding inspection experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of welding codes such as AWS D1.1, API 1104, and ASME Section IX.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual welding inspections in accordance with codes and project specs (AWS, ASME, API).
• Verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and PQR.
• Confirm welder qualifications and maintain documentation.
• Interpret drawings, welding symbols, and technical specs.
• Document inspection findings, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate and monitor non-destructive testing (NDT) as required.
• Prepare daily field reports and inspection summaries.
• Travel to multiple job sites, including out-of-town and multi-state assignments.
• Follow safety policies and quality control procedures.
• Communicate with project managers, field staff, contractors, and clients.
