Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our inspection and quality assurance team. This role conducts welding inspections and ensures compliance with codes, project specs, and industry standards across Southeast projects.

The position requires travel to project sites, including multi-state assignments, and field work to support active construction operations.

Qualifications

• Current AWS-CWI certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years welding inspection experience.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, API 1104, ASME IX.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual welding inspections per codes and project specs (AWS, ASME, API, etc.).
• Verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and PQRs.
• Confirm welder qualifications and maintain documentation.
• Interpret construction drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
• Document inspection findings, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate and monitor NDT activities as required.
• Prepare daily field reports and inspection summaries.
• Travel to various job sites, including out-of-town and multi-state assignments.
• Follow safety policies and QC procedures.
• Communicate with project managers, field staff, contractors, and clients.
