Job summary

American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for a Level I trauma teaching hospital OR in Illinois, requiring 3+ years of experience including recent acute care/trauma level facility experience.

Responsibilities include managing a busy general OR with an average daily census of 50–60 cases, an evening shift (3:00 PM–11:00 PM), and one weekend rotation per month. Travel healthcare experience is required.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted).
• Minimum 3 years of experience.
• 2 years of recent acute care/trauma level facility experience within past 3 years; outpatient experience does not count.
• Level I trauma experience required.
• General OR, teaching hospital, and trauma work setting experience.

Responsibilities

• General OR setting in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with 562 staffed beds.
• Average daily census of 50-60 cases per day.
• Evening shift schedule (5x8 hours, 3:00 PM-11:00 PM).
• Weekend rotation required once a month totaling 16 hours.
• On-call required as needed for the department.
• Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.

American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for a Level I trauma teaching hospital OR, requiring 3+ years of experience including recent acute care/trauma level facility experience.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience required
• 2 years of recent (within past 3 years) acute care/trauma level facility experience required; outpatient experience does not count
• BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
• CST certification preferred
• License required if applicable
• Level I trauma experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• General OR, teaching hospital, and trauma work setting experience required
• Experience with ENT procedures including direct laryngoscopy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, and tracheostomy
• Experience with endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy, EGD, and peg tube placement/exchange
• Experience with general surgery procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, and thyroidectomy
• Experience with gynecology procedures including abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, D&C, and laparoscopic gynecological procedures
• Experience with neurosurgery procedures including craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion
• Experience with oral surgery including repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic
• Experience with orthopedic procedures including arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, and fracture reductions
• Experience with plastic surgery including free flap microvascular procedures
• Experience with trauma cases including amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multiple injury MVAs
• Experience with urology procedures including cystoscopy, laparoscopic cases, nephrectomy, and ureteroscopy
• Proficiency with drills, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources/cords
• Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, isolation precautions, radiation safety, sharps safety, specimen handling, and Universal Protocol time out procedures
• Fire safety emergency management skills required
• Neuro surgery experience required
• 1:1 patient ratio experience
• Travel healthcare experience required

• Must relocate to the area at least 3 business days prior to start for fingerprinting compliance
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the facility must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Floating is required for all travelers, including to the hospital or nearby affiliate facilities
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Parking permit required but provided at no cost, completed during orientation
• First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation requiring completion of assigned modules by 4:00 PM CST
