Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist for a Labor & Delivery operating room position requiring L&D/OB experience. Day shifts, 12-hour periods, 36 hours weekly, with every other weekend and holiday.

The candidate must hold BLS and CST certifications and graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing program (or have equivalent experience). Strong communication, organization, and UNC Health competency completion are essential.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
• L&D/OB experience required
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, Military Training Program in Surgical Technology, or 3+ years of prior experience as a substitute for formal education
• BLS certification required
• CST certification required (license required if applicable)
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills
• Successful completion of UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies

Responsibilities

• Hospital setting within the Labor & Delivery unit
• Day shift from 7:00am to 7:00pm
• 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week, 36 hours weekly
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No on-call requirements
• Block scheduling may be considered
• Perform technical skill duties across all operating room specialty service areas following accepted standards of practice
• Maintain, assemble, handle, and sterilize specialty instrumentation
• Follow aseptic technique and proactively identify and correct contamination or breaks in sterile field
• Perform surgical counts and follow proper procedures for reporting discrepancies
• Label and monitor drugs and solutions, and assist with specimen identification and handling
• Plan and set up instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility during procedures
• Assist surgeons with an understanding of patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting the procedure
• Assist in case picking and instrument planningRespond to surgical emergencies and follow hospital emergency management protocols
• Inventory, receive, and store supplies under direction of Surgical Services leadership
• Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipmentOperate and troubleshoot complex operating room equipment
• Serve as a mentor or preceptor for Surgical Technician Trainees as needed
