Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Missouri. Requires 2+ years of telemetry/step-down experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30), with every other weekend and travel-friendly terms. Epic EMR experience preferred; Relias EKG exam may be required.

Qualifications

• Active MO or compact RN license required; must match permanent residence.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years telemetry or step-down experience.
• Experience with cardiac drips and EKG interpretation; dysrhythmias management.
• Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Epic EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

• PCU unit within a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital.
• Unit transitioning from High Risk Cardiology to PCU with lower acuity patients.
• Care for CHF, arrhythmias, ACS, CAD, valve disease, and post-surgical patients.
• Patient ratio of 1:3-5; night shift 19:00-07:30; every other weekend.
• Floating within service line; use Epic charting; assist in cardiac procedures.
• Provide bedside telemetry and emergency response; tracheostomy and insulin infusion care.
• Navy scrub color required; first-time travelers welcome; 75+ miles residence rule.

Job description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2+ years of telemetry/step-down experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry or step-down experience required
• Experience with cardiac drips and EKG interpretation/management of dysrhythmias required
• Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Epic EMR experience required
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line care/management, PICC line management, starting/maintaining IVs, and management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
• Preferred skills include arterial line management, cardiac drip titration, insulin drip titration, heparin protocol management, and wound care/wound vac
• Experience caring for pre/post cardiac cath, post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac surgery patients preferred
• Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved

Responsibilities

• Unit transitioning from High Risk Cardiology to PCU, with lower acuity patients until transition completes
• Patient population includes CHF, arrhythmias/A-fib/A-flutter, ACS-STEMI/NSTEMI, heart valve disease, CAD, hypertensive crisis, chest pain/SOB/syncope, pacemaker/AICD malfunction, acute renal failure, LVAD, and CT surgery (CABG, valve, transplant) patients
• Patient ratio of 1:3-5
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within service line before floating to other units
• Uses Epic charting system
• Involved in cardiac catheterization, pacemaker/AICD placement, echocardiograms, stress testing, cardiac MRI/CT, cardioversion/ablation, and related cardiac procedures
• Manages LVAD equipment and patients
• Provide bedside cardiac telemetry and PCU-level nursing care, including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
• Perform tracheostomy management, nasal cannula respiratory care, and insulin infusion management
• Navy scrub color required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
• Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation
• Returning permanent employees must wait 1 year before accepting a travel assignment at any BJC facility
• Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
