Responsibilities

• Care for an Acute inpatient Stepdown/Intermediate Care unit with 32 beds.
• Treat patients with COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, renal disease, and more.
• Manage BiPAP, CPAP, tracheostomies, chest tubes, NG tubes, PICC/CV lines.
• Maintain a 3-4:1 patient nurse ratio and rotate weekends/holidays.
• Use EPIC EMR and Pyxis for meds and charting.
• Float as needed, with priority to travelers.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Stepdown unit requiring telemetry skills and comfort managing chest tubes.

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must be able to accurately read telemetry strips
• Must be comfortable managing chest tubes
• EPIC EMR experience required

Responsibilities

• Acute inpatient Stepdown/Intermediate Care unit with 32 private beds
• Care for patients with a wide range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, renal disease, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and neuro/surgical/cardiac cases
• Manage patients with BiPAP, CPAP, tracheostomies, chest tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines, and post-ablation/cath lab needs
• Nurse to patient ratio of 3-4 patients per nurse
• Uses EPIC EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• 12-hour night shifts, three per week, with rotating weekends and holidays
• Floating required, with priority given to travelers; may float to ICU with extensive ICU experience or to Gen Med floors otherwise
• Provide comprehensive nursing care across a wide range of acute medical and surgical conditions
• Participate in a holiday and weekend rotation schedule
• Orientation includes one day with the education team and one day of floor orientationScrubs of any color are acceptable
• Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible for local pay rates
• Covid vaccination is not required for consideration
