Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Illinois. The nurse must hold an active IL RN license and have telemetry/step-down nursing experience.

The role requires ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications, 2+ years of RN experience, and Epic EMR proficiency. Responsibilities include night shifts (7:00 PM–7:00 AM), 1:4–5 patient ratios, and care for cardiac/respiratory/neurological patients with telemetry monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Patient ratio of 1:4-5.
• Care for cardiac, respiratory, and neurological patients with telemetry monitoring.
• Perform procedures and manage cardiac drips and dysrhythmias.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring an active IL RN license and prior telemetry/step-down nursing experience.

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required, license in hand (pending licenses not accepted)
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
• Experience with bedside hemodialysis, endoscope, chest tubes, EEG, cardioversion, and arterial lines required
• Experience with high flow oxygen delivery required
• Epic charting system experience required

Responsibilities

• Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a hospital setting
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
• Patient ratio of 1:4-5
• Patient population includes respiratory insufficiency/disease, acute MI, cardiac disease, neurological disorders, and CVA
• Performs procedures such as thoracentesis, chemical and electro cardioversion
• Uses equipment including BiPAP/CPAP and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
• Requires Epic EMR experience
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• May float within scope to same level of care or one step below (Med Surg)
• Provide nursing care to cardiac, respiratory, and neurological patients requiring telemetry monitoring
• Manage cardiac drips (no titration) and interpret/manage dysrhythmias
• Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Local candidates within a 70-mile radius are not accepted
• Candidates must have RTO scheduled at the time of consideration
• Clinicians cannot work past 1 year as a traveler without taking a 6-month break before returning
