Job summary

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for DOU/PCU/Telemetry in California. CA RN license and 2+ years of recent inpatient experience are required, plus BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications.

Travel experience and familiarity with cardiac monitoring and rapid response teams are essential. Assigned to DOU/PCU with potential float to telemetry, you will work 3x12 hour nights, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with every other weekend.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS.
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required (hardstop).
• Travel experience required.
• Experience with telemetry, dysrhythmia management and interpretation, and rapid response/code teams.
• Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac cath and surgery care.
• Experience with TAVR, TR Band, IV insulin protocols, and insulin drip titration.
• Experience accessing and managing ports, central lines, peripheral lines, and PICC lines.
• Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs, blood product administration, and heparin protocols.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Direct Observation Unit (DOU/PCU/IMC/Stepdown) of a hospital.
• Primarily medical-surgical patients with potential to float to telemetry.
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 in DOU and 1:5 in ARU.
• Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00-7:30.
• Every other weekend required (Sunday nights not counted as weekend).
• Mandatory floating to ARU and DOU within scope of practice.
• Provide direct patient care within a cardiac monitoring and stepdown unit environment.
• Collaborate with rapid response and code teams as needed.
• RTO must be submitted upfront with no exceptions.
• Former permanent employees must be separated from the facility for at least 365 days before returning as a traveler.
• Travel pairs accepted, though matching schedules are not guaranteed.
• First-time travelers may be considered if all criteria are met.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required (hardstop)
• Travel experience required
• Any charting system experience accepted
• Skilled in telemetry, dysrhythmia management and interpretation, and use of rapid response/code teams
• Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac cath and surgery care
• Experience with TAVR, TR Band, IV insulin protocols, and insulin drip titration
• Skilled in feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Experience accessing and managing ports, central lines, peripheral lines, and PICC lines
• Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs, blood product administration, and heparin protocols
• Experience managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with procedural sedation administration/monitoring and thrombolytic agents
• Skilled in care of CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, and pre/post neurosurgery patients
• Experience with seizure disorder management and surgical drain care
• Skilled in nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use
