American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CVU) position in Omaha, NE. Requires NIHSS, BLS, ACLS, and cardiac telemetry experience, with an active NE/compact license.

The unit is 18 beds, supports thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart services. RNs titrate drips, read telemetry, and coordinate care with on-call cardiology and hospitalists. 12-hour nights with every other weekend.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Nebraska or Compact/NLC) required.
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and active.
• Minimum 1 year RN experience in cardiac/telemetry population.
• Must be able to titrate cardiac and blood pressure drips.
• Must read and interpret own telemetry strips.
• Two professional references: supervisor within 12 months; peer/supervisor within 3 years, with dates.
• Copy of driver�s license required.

Responsibilities

• Care for an 18-bed CVU stepdown unit in a level 1 trauma hospital.
• Support thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart services.
• Titrate drips including Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other BP meds.
• Read and interpret own telemetry strips; tele/mobile capabilities with remote tele techs.
• RN-to-patient ratio 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in first 24 hours.
• Hospitalist and cardiology on-call; EPIC EMR used.
• Provide intermediate care for stepdown and downgraded CVICU patients.

Requirements

• Active RN license (Nebraska or Compact/NLC) required, pending licenses not accepted
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and must be active, pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience in a similar cardiac/telemetry patient population required
• Must be able to titrate cardiac and blood pressure drips
• Must be able to read and interpret own telemetry strips
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting in the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) stepdown unit
• 18-bed unit supporting thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart services
• Cares for intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients, including CVA, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac/vascular diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other blood pressure medications
• RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips, with hardwired tele and tele box capabilities plus remote tele techs
• Hospitalist and intensivist in house 24/7, with cardiology on-call after hours
• Respiratory therapy in-house 24/7, with RNs troubleshooting BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula equipment
• Charge nurse present every shift, rarely taking a patient assignment
• Patient care techs on unit at 1:18 ratio
• 12-hour night shifts, scheduled 1830-0700, manager-scheduled with no block or self-scheduling
• Every other weekend required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floats to same or lower acuity units
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Provide intermediate cardiac and vascular nursing care to stepdown and downgraded CVICU patients
• Participate in a tailored unit orientation of 1-2 shifts based on experience level
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; PRN work through outside firms is acceptable
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
