Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU/Trauma ICU role in California. Requires CA RN license and ICU experience with surgical/trauma patients, with nurse duties spanning SICU and TICU, including line procedures and critical care support.

Position includes 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and holiday rotations. Travel to Sacramento-area facilities may occur; there is in-house hospitalist and 24/7 RT/pharmacy support. First-time travelers are welcome.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license (Standard or Compact) in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• TNCC certification and trauma experience preferred for TICU assignment
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN ICU experience
• Experience with surgical patients (CEA, fem-pop, EVAR, laparotomy, thoracic surgery) required
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator management experience required
• Two professional references: supervisor within 12 months and peer within 3 years, with dates
• Copy of driver’s license with name matching government ID

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in SICU/TICU with potential float between units
• Care for postop vascular, fem-pop, EVAR, thoracic, and open abdominal surgery patients; CRRT/ECMO as needed
• TICU care for all trauma cases with CRRT and rapid infusers
• Use Cerner EMR; 12-hour night shifts starting 0645
• Every other weekend; holiday rotation; self-scheduling 4 weeks out
• Float to Sacramento-area facilities; travelers first to float
• 24/7 respiratory therapy, pharmacy and in-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage
• Line placements/line insertions common in both units; preceptor orientation
• Adhere to unit scrub color and gowning; orientation dysrhythmia/sterile technique assessments
• First-time travelers welcome; prior health system employment within past year may affect eligibility

• Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting in the SICU (Surgical ICU), with potential float to TICU (Trauma ICU) based on census
• SICU has 10 beds with patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2, caring for postop vascular, fem-pop, EVAR, thoracic, and open abdominal surgery patients, including CRRT and ECMO cases
• TICU has 8 beds with ratios of 1:1 to 1:2 (1:1 for IABP and donor patients), caring for all trauma cases with CRRT and rapid infusers
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts starting at 0645 with bedside report
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation required with core staff
• Self-scheduling available, finalized by management, with schedules posted 4 weeks out
• Floating required to other Sacramento-area facilities, with travelers first to float
• In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 pharmacy
• Charge nurse available for support and break relief
• Safety attendants (sitters) available as nurse aids
• Provide direct patient care in a high‑acuity ICU setting, floating between Surgical ICU and Trauma ICU based on census needs
• Interdisciplinary rounds conducted daily for all patients in TICU
• Line placements and line insertions are common procedures in both units
• Floor‑specific orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor
• Scrub color is navy, with undershirts in navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional in navy
• Required to complete a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing, with two attempts allowed
• Required to pass a sterile technique assessment for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full‑time, part‑time, or PRN) by any facility within the associated health system within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
