Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night assignment in Woodland, CA. Requires 2+ years ICU experience and CA RN license with active certifications. Relias/Dysrhythmia tests and sterile technique must be passed on orientation day.

Includes housing allowances, travel perks, and 24/7 support. Responsibilities include caring for 8-bed ICU, telemetry/ventilated patients, 12-hour nights, 1:1–2 patient ratios, and possible float to sister facilities.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) in hand
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience
• Two professional references with timelines
• Valid driver's license to verify name

Responsibilities

• Acute care ICU with 8 beds
• Medical ICU patient population
• Patient ratios 1:1-2
• Cares for tele and ventilator patients; read/interprete EKG strips
• Charge nurse assists with break relief
• Hospitalist/Intensivist in house, 24/7 RT and Pharmacy
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts 7pm–7:30am
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling; schedules released 4 weeks out
• Orientation of 1–2 days with a preceptor
• Direct care for medically complex ICU patients in a horseshoe-layout unit adjacent to PACU
• Relias Dysrhythmia exam before acceptance (1–2 attempts)
• Sterile technique test for Foley/cvl on first day
• Holiday travel 2 of 3 major holidays
• Floating to Sacramento-area facilities and Woodland MedSurg unit
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13 weeks

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and multiple advanced certifications.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand, no pending licenses accepted
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor reference within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Valid driver's license required to validate legal name at time of consideration
• No prior direct employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered

Responsibilities

• Acute care ICU setting with 8 beds
• Primarily medical ICU patient population with common ICU diagnoses
• Patient ratios of 1:1-2
• Cares for tele and ventilator patients; must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Charge nurse available and generally does not take patients but assists with break relief
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house, with RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts from 7pm-7:30am with bedside report
• Every other weekend required
• First to float to sister facilities and MedSurg unit at Woodland (max 4 patients)
• Self-scheduling available, finalized by manager, with schedules released 4 weeks out
• Floor-specific orientation of 1-2 days with a preceptor
• Provide direct patient care to medically complex ICU patients in a horseshoe-layout unit adjacent to PACU, suitable for a basic ICU RN traveler
• Required to complete a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, to be finished within 24-48 hours with up to 2 attempts
• Required to pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
• Failure of the Relias exam or sterile technique test on the second attempt results in ineligibility for 6 months with CommonSpirit Sacramento region and Arizona facilities
• Travelers will work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's), with final scheduling determined by the manager; holiday time off considered but not guaranteed
• Scrub color is navy, with undershirts in navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional and must be navy if worn
• Floating expected to sister Sacramento-area facilities and to the MedSurg unit at Woodland, with rare mid-shift floats to other facilities
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
