Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU travel assignment in a Level 1 Trauma hospital in Missouri. You will provide critical care to trauma, surgical, burn, sepsis, and multi-system patients on a 1:2 ratio, with night shifts and potential 36–48 hour contracts.

Active MO or Compact RN license with BLS/ACLS is required; CCRN/PALS preferred. Prior charge nurse, trauma, and neurological care experience are valued, with Cerner charting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide CCN care in Surgical ICU within a Level 1 Trauma facility
• Care for trauma, surgical, burn, sepsis, and multi-system cases
• Maintain patient ratio 1:2
• Night shift: 19:00–7:30, 3x12-hour shifts
• Flexibility for 36 or 48 hour contracts
• Floating to other units as needed and possible observer role
• Cerner charting system use
• Deliver high-acuity critical care nursing for trauma patients
• Work in a 24/7 facility with exposure to contagious illnesses
• Support holidays work and weekend availability
• First-time traveler considered
• Local candidates may receive different local rate; some mileage restrictions apply
• Contract can include up to 3x13-week blocks with breaks before returning

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring a MO or compact RN license and 2 years of general ICU experience.

Requirements

• Active MO or Compact RN license required in hand
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CCRN and PALS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of general ICU experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, central/arterial line management, blood product administration, and PICC line management
• Respiratory skills including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, and suctioning
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Neurological care experience including EVD, ICP monitoring, and TBI/spinal cord injury management
• Ability to meet physical demands including ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs

Responsibilities

• Surgical ICU setting within a Level 1 Trauma facility
• Patient population includes trauma, surgical, burn, sepsis, and multi-system organ failure cases such as MVC, falls, GSW, penetrating trauma, burns, necrotizing fasciitis, ARDS, perforated bowel, AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, and fem-pop bypass
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30
• 36 or 48 hour contracts available
• Mandatory floating to Adult MS Cluster and other units as needed, including as a Patient Observer/Sitter
• Cerner charting system preferred
• Provide critical care nursing to surgical ICU trauma patients with complex, high-acuity conditions
• Work in a 24/7 healthcare facility with potential exposure to contagious illnesses
• Required to work 50% of holidays occurring during the contract, with flexibility on which holidays are worked
• Must be able to work assigned weekends, take call, and work during inclement weather
• First-time travelers will be considered for this role
• Local candidates within 51-74 miles may be offered at a reduced local rate; those within 50 miles are not eligible
• Local candidates accepted but not eligible for extensions beyond the initial contract
• Maximum RTO of 10 days, with none permitted during the first week due to orientation
• Travelers may work up to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts (up to 9 months), followed by a mandatory 6-month break before returning in an agency capacity
