Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced PICU RN to join our team at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Illinois. The role requires active IL RN license, BLS/PALS, and a minimum of 2 years PICU experience.

Cerner charting is required, with responsibilities including critical care nursing, ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and IV vasopressor support. Shifts are 7:00 PM–7:30 AM (3x12), with every other weekend and regular float across units.

Qualifications

  • Active IL RN license required in hand at time of consideration.
  • BLS and PALS certifications required.
  • Minimum 2+ years of PICU experience required.
  • Cerner charting experience required.
  • Skills include ventilated patient management, ABG interpretation, central/PICC line care, ICP monitoring, dysrhythmia management, IV vasopressors, and pediatric dosage calculations.
  • Two professional references required, from most recent employers, one per employer.
  • Proof of COVID vaccination required with no exceptions.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
  • Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per month).
  • No block scheduling permitted.
  • Mandatory float facility; floating regularly across units with team support.
  • May float to other Cook facilities within 50 miles with short notice.
  • Cerner charting system used.
  • Provide critical care nursing to PICU patients including seizure management, sedation, and respiratory support.
  • RTO limits and policies apply; no weekend RTO.

  • Refusal to float may result in assignment cancellation
  • RTO limited to 5 days max with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on weekends
  • No RTO permitted on holidays or the day before/after a holiday; calling out on a holiday may result in contract cancellation
  • Any scrub color accepted
  • Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility
  • Returning clinicians must complete full recredentialing and orientation, even after breaks of less than 30 days
  • Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
