American Traveler, LLC. is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position in California. The assignment features night shifts 7p-7a, 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend, in an 8-bed PICU.

Candidates must have CA RN license, BLS, PALS, 2 years PICU, and Cerner EMR familiarity; references and driver's license required. Travel and housing allowances provided; pay is competitive.

Qualifications

• BLS and PALS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required.
• Cerner EMR experience preferred.
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility.
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in an 8-bed PICU with an average census of 2 patients.
• Patient ratio of 1 to 2.
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a), with every other weekend required.
• Uses Cerner EMR.
• Spacelab telemetry monitors used; nurses must read their own strips.
• Ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and HFNC support available with 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage.
• In-house pediatric hospitalist/intensivist coverage available 24/7.
• Rarely staffed with a charge nurse; no nurse aides or IV team support.

• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in an 8-bed PICU with an average census of 2 patients
• Patient ratio of 1 to 2
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a), with every other weekend required
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Spacelab telemetry monitors used; nurses must read their own strips
• Ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and HFNC support available with 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage
• In-house pediatric hospitalist/intensivist coverage available 24/7
• Rarely staffed with a charge nurse; no nurse aides or IV team support
• May be placed on standby for low census days when scheduled
• Travelers are first to float, including to General Peds and Burn unit (for non-burn pediatric care) and voluntary NICU coverage
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in Peds, and 1 shift in Burn (for pediatric patients)
• Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, DKA, suicide attempts, overdose, and poisoning
• Manages titratable drips including insulin, sedatives, heparin, and occasionally vasopressors and electrolyte replacements
• Uses Medfusion pumps
• Provide direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients including those requiring ventilator support and continuous drip management
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year will not be considered
