American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse with critical care background and Epic charting proficiency for a variable-shift assignment at a teaching hospital in Portland, OR.

The ideal candidate will hold an active OR RN license, BLS/ACLS, and at least two years of critical care experience. Responsibilities include 24/7 perianesthesia care, postoperative recovery, and potential float to affiliate hospitals.

Qualifications

• Active OR RN license required for consideration.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA Traditional only, RQI not accepted).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Adult or Peds Critical Care, ICU, high-acuity ED, or PACU.
• Epic charting experience required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 perianesthesia care to adult and some pediatric patients in a 38-bay PACU.
• Care for ambulatory, acute, and critical care patients arriving from home, ED, or inpatient units.
• Prepare patients for surgery/procedures and recover post-anesthesia before discharge or transfer.
• Work 3x12 hour variable day/evening shifts with possible night shifts; start between 05:30 and 19:00.
• Float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as unit needs dictate.
• Administer medications including IV vasopressors, narcotics, and reversal agents as needed.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PACU RN with critical care background and Epic charting experience for a variable-shift assignment at a teaching hospital.

Requirements

• Active OR RN license required for consideration
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA Traditional only, RQI not accepted); CCRN preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Adult or Peds Critical Care, ICU, high-acuity ED, or PACU
• Epic charting experience required for consideration
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Skills required include cardiac monitoring, arterial line management, dysrhythmia recognition/management, IV therapy, blood product administration, central line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with various anesthesia types (general, local, MAC, nerve blocks, spinal, post-epidural management) and surgical specialties (bariatrics, ENT, general, gyn, neuro, ophthalmology, ortho, vascular)
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia protocol, pain assessment/management, PCA pump management, and RASS scale
• Two manager or supervisor references from within the last 24 months required (charge RN references not accepted)
• Work history verification covering the last seven years including city, state, dates, and PTO is required
• COVID vaccination proof required with no exemptions accepted

Responsibilities

• Work in a 38-bay South PACU providing 24/7 perianesthesia care to adult and some pediatric patients
• Care for ambulatory, acute care, and critical care patients arriving from home, the ED, and inpatient units
• Patients are prepared for surgery/procedures and recovered post-anesthesia before discharge or transition to inpatient care
• Variable day/evening shifts (3x12 hours) with possible night shifts, starting between 0530-1900
• Shift schedule remains consistent week to week but flexibility is required
• Unit is staffed 24/7 and uses call to cover nights, weekends, and holidays
• Candidates may float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals per unit needs
• Provide perianesthesia nursing care including pre-op preparation and post-anesthesia recovery for adult and pediatric surgical patients
• Administer medications including IV vasopressors, narcotics/opioid analgesics, and reversal agents as needed
• Floating to the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals is required; refusal to float as requested may result in contract cancellation
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no mileage radius restriction
• Returning staff must have a 6+ month gap since their last assignment to be eligible for rehire
• Former OHSU employees or travelers must provide a reference from their previous OHSU supervisor
• RTO must be submitted upfront and not exceed two weeks
