Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a PACU RN with CA licensure and at least 2 years of RN experience to float between PACU and Same Day Surgery in Berkeley, CA. The role involves day shifts (4x10 hours) with on-call requirements and a patient load of 1:2, serving as the primary nurse from admission to discharge.

Requirements include active CA RN license, BLS/ACLS, and preferably PALS, plus experience with cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, IV therapies, and various anesthesia managements.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience required.
• 1 year of charge nurse experience preferred.
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, arterial line management, dysrhythmia recognition/management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central line care.
• Experience administering IV vasopressors, narcotics/opioid analgesics, and reversal agents.
• Experience with EVD and ICP monitoring.
• Experience caring for ventilated patients.
• Experience with various anesthesia managements (general, local, MAC, nerve block, spinal, post-epidural).
• Knowledge of Malignant Hyperthermia Protocol, pain assessment/management, PCA pump management, and RASS.
• Experience with bariatric, ENT, general, GYN, neuro, ophthalmology, ortho, and vascular surgery cases.
• Any charting system experience accepted.
• Two supervisor references required within the past year for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Float between PACU and Same Day Surgery (Phase I and Phase II).
• Provide care in PACU/Same Day Surgery for same day surgery and pre-op patients.
• Day shift, 4x10 hours, Mon–Fri; latest start 11:00 with occasional on-call shifts.
• Maintain patient nurse role from admission through discharge.
• Conduct ongoing patient assessments and develop individualized care plans with physicians and teams.
• Respond to emergencies with calm, competent clinical judgment.

• Float between PACU and Same Day Surgery (Phase I and Phase II areas)
• Day shift, 4x10 hours, Monday through Friday with variable start times (latest 11:00)
• Occasional on-call shift required
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Serve as the patient's primary nurse, managing care from admission through discharge
• Conduct ongoing patient assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians and other disciplines
• Respond to medical and environmental emergencies with calm, competent clinical judgment
• Local candidates accepted at a local rate
• Must live within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Returning staff or travelers must have a 1-year separation before returning
• Maximum of 7 days RTO per contract, with only 1 holiday request approved per contract
• Holiday coverage includes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
• First-time travelers are not preferred for this role
