Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU role in California. The ideal candidate holds a CA RN license, has at least 2 years in PACU, and has charge nurse experience to lead perioperative teams.

You will work in a 12-bed PACU, handle Phase I and II recoveries for general surgery and procedural patients, and share on-call duties. Travel-friendly benefits are included with housing support.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years PACU experience required.
• Previous charge nurse experience required.
• ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications required.
• Preferred CCRN/TNCC certifications.
• Experience with Phase I/II PACU recovery.
• Teaching hospital and Level I/II trauma experience preferred.
• Airway assessment, ETCO2 monitoring, extubation of LMA/ET, and airway placement.
• Cardiac monitoring including arterial line, CVP, and dysrhythmia recognition.
• IV therapy including starting IVs and phlebotomy.
• Experience with various surgical cases (endo/laparoscopic, ortho).
• Pain assessment, PCA management, PPE/isolation precautions.
• Two supervisor references within past year.
• Copies of certifications with expiration dates.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 12-bed PACU with 4-6 bays for Phase 1 recovery of general surgery and procedural patients.
• Float to periop areas as needed for staffing, including Phase 2 recovery for moderate sedation in IR, GI, and Surgery.
• Admit and discharge same-day procedure patients.
• Maintain patient ratio 1:2.
• 5x8-hour shifts with start times 07:00–15:00; day/evening shifts.
• On-call and weekend availability as needed.
• Use Epic charting system.
• Provide direct recovery care to post-surgical patients.

Requirements

• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
• Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC
• Experience with Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Skilled in airway assessment, End‑Tidal CO2 monitoring, extubation of LMA/ET, and placement of oral/nasal airways
• Experience with cardiac monitoring including arterial line management, CVP, and dysrhythmia recognition
• Experience with IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs and phlebotomy
• Experience with various surgical case types including endo/laparoscopic and ortho procedures 
• Knowledge of pain assessment and management, PCA pump management and isolation precautions/PPE 
• Must provide 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year
• Must provide copies of all applicable certifications with valid expiration dates 

Responsibilities

• Work in a 12-bed PACU, primarily utilizing 4-6 bays for Phase 1 recovery of general surgery and procedural patients under general anesthesia or deep sedation
• Float to periop areas as needed for staffing, including pre‑procedure and Phase 2 recovery for moderate sedation patients in Interventional Radiology, GI, and Surgery
• Responsible for admission and discharge for the same–day procedure patients 
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• 5x8-hour shifts with variable start times between 0700‑1500, including day and evening shifts 
• On call and weekend availability as needed 
• Uses Epic charting system
