American Traveler is seeking an Operating Room RN for a critical access hospital setting, requiring at least 1-2 years of circulating OR experience and a Maine or compact RN license.
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maine or Compact) required
- Minimum 2 years of OR circulating experience required; 1 year considered if experienced in all specialties offered
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Must be comfortable monitoring patients on cardiac monitors and interpreting cardiac rhythms
- Must be comfortable learning pre-op and PACU duties, including pre-op interviews
- Cerner EMR experience highly preferred; must be comfortable and quick to learn new EMR systems if inexperienced
- Full SSN required for consideration
- Driver's license required as a separate file for consideration
- Two references within the past year required, including at least one from a Supervisor, Manager, or Director (Charge RN acceptable, no peer references)
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
Responsibilities
- Critical access hospital with 25 beds and 3 OR suites plus 1 GI endoscopy room
- Case types include general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, GYN, OB (C-sections), endoscopic procedures, and urology
- No robotics, high-level trauma, or neuro cases performed
- Average of 8-10 cases performed per day
- Scheduled shift is Monday-Thursday, 0700-1630, with the department closed on Fridays
- Call requirements include 4-8 call shifts per month and 1 weekend of call per month (Friday 0700-Monday 0700) with a 20-minute response time
- No floating required
- EMR used is Cerner, IV pumps are Alaris, and medication dispensing is via Pyxis
- RNs will circulate cases, transport patients (no transporter on staff), and assist with room turnover and cleaning (no housekeeping support)
- On callback, RNs will circulate the case and recover the patient afterward, taking on some Pre-op/PACU responsibilities
- Unit support includes a Supervisor, Charge RN, 3 CRNAs (no anesthesiologist), and Respiratory Therapy
- Orientation consists of 4 shifts in the department, with an option for buddy call before taking independent call in the second week
- Surgical scrubs are provided and parking is free
- Holiday coverage is call-only, with staff typically covering major holidays but possible call for 1 summer and 1 winter holiday
- RTO requests require manager approval
- First-time travelers will be considered if experienced in the required case types and specialties
- Flu vaccination is required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only accepted and requiring at least 2 weeks for review
- Permanent address must be located 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility for eligibility
- Candidates who have previously worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health hospital are not eligible
