Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring Level III/IV high-risk delivery and ventilator experience.

The role offers a Level III NICU, 23 beds, 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio, and a 3x12 hour night schedule. Vents, cooling therapy, and CPAP support are involved. RTO must be planned with the assignment and near-term travel nurses are welcome.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required at time of submission.
• Minimum 2-3 years NICU experience required, ideally in a Level III or IV unit with high-risk delivery and ventilator experience.
• AHA BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required.
• Experience with vents required.
• Skilled in IV therapy, blood and blood product administration, arterial line management, and central line care.
• Experience with neonatal feeding methods (bottle, breast, gavage) and NG/NJ tube placement/management.
• Teaching hospital experience preferred.
• References required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Level III NICU setting with 23 beds and an average census of 10.
• 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM).
• Neonatal patient population, primarily infants greater than 34 weeks gestation.
• Cares for patients requiring phototherapy, therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket), and respiratory support including bubble CPAP.
• Requires 4 weekend shifts (Friday/Saturday).
• Option to be placed on call if not needed for scheduled shift.
• Floating required if needed.
• Royal blue scrubs required.
• Epic EMR experience required.
• Provide specialized nursing care to neonates in a high-acuity NICU setting.
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
• Local candidates accepted at the travel rate.
• Return staff reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Facility is smoke and nicotine-free; candidates must arrive free of tobacco odor.
• RTO must be submitted with the initial application and cannot include any time off during the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Once RTO is submitted, changes are not permitted except to cancel requested time off.
• Candidates with license restrictions, disciplinary actions, or board investigations will not be considered.
