Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a NICU position requiring NICU II and III experience and an active SC or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active SC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of NICU II and III experience required
• At least 1 year of recent experience in the unit
• Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy, blood/blood product administration, arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, and neonatal dosage calculations
• Experience with high frequency ventilation, oscillators, nitric oxide therapy, and ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
• Experience with therapeutic hypothermia, VP shunts, NAS, and seizure disorder management
• Experience with gastrointestinal care including gastroschisis/omphalocele and NEC management
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Responsibilities

• NICU II and III level unit caring for neonates 22 weeks gestation and greater
• Patient diagnoses include abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS/RFS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, duodenal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, urethral stenosis, myelomeningocele, and ROP
• Performs specialized procedures including full body cooling, chest tube management, surgical repair of non-cardiac anomalies, tracheostomy management, and Avastin administration/laser eye surgery
• Uses specialized equipment such as Artic Sun, Blanketroll, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Alaris, Philips central monitors, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, Atom and GE dual incubators, Draeger Caleos, radiant warmers, external shunts, and ostomy equipment
• Night shift schedule, 4x12-hour shifts from 1900-0730 with no call, or 3x12-hour shifts with a bi-weekly 12-hour call requirement
• Every other weekend coverage required unless census needs change
• Floating to other NICU units or facilities required as neededUses Pyxis/Omnicell for unit medication systems and EPIC for documentation
• Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care for critically ill neonates including respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and infectious disease management
• Support developmental care, APGAR scoring, phototherapy, and patient/family teaching
• Perform phlebotomy, assist with lumbar punctures, and manage central and umbilical lines
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
• Orientation occurs every Monday with annual compliance training required
• Pre-assignment testing and modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
