Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center's Admission Holding unit in North Carolina. Requires 2+ years Med/Surg experience and NC or compact RN license. BLS/ACLS, EPIC EMR, and strong IV and cardiac care skills are needed.

Unit is 20 beds with 1:5 staffing, 12-hour night shifts, and 36 hours weekly with every other weekend. Travel and housing benefits are included for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience
• Minimum 12 months of core experience in unit specialty area with recent experience
• EPIC EMR experience
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• 1 professional reference dated within the last year from Supervisor/Manager/Director/Charge RN

Responsibilities

• Work in the Admission Holding unit of a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital
• 20-bed unit split between 5A and 5B, functioning as a Transitional Care Unit
• General Med/Surg patient population including CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues
• Mostly medical patients with potential surgical admits
• 1:5 patient ratio
• 12-hour night shift (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation
• Floating within scope of practice
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• EPIC EMR used
• Bedside telemetry with central monitoring
• 24/7 support from phlebotomy, RT, hospitalists, residents
• 1 CNA per unit and 1 charge nurse per area
• Direct patient care including drip management, wound care, cardiac monitoring

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required

• Skills required: trach care, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and central line blood draws
• Experience with non-titrating drips required: Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix
• Experience with non-titrating Cardizem and Amiodarone drips preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• 20-bed unit split between 5A and 5B, functioning as a Transitional Care Unit
• General Med/Surg patient population including CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, CIWA patients, infections, and wounds
• Mostly medical patients, though any service line can admit including some general surgical patients
• 1:5 patient ratio
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
• Floating required within scope of practice throughout the hospital
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• EPIC EMR used
• Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system used
• Bedside telemetry monitors with central monitoring at the nurses' station
• 24/7 support from phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and residents
• 1 CNA per unit (5A and 5B) and 1 charge nurse covering both areas
• Provide direct patient care including drip management, wound care, and cardiac monitoring within an academic Level 1 Trauma setting
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 shifts on the unit
• Scrub color required: Royal Blue
• Free parking available on-site
• Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
• Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
