Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an RN for Med/Surg Tele on a 16-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center. The role requires 2 years of Med/Surg experience, telemetry skills, and a strong ability to work in a high-stress environment.

Shifts are 12 hours (7A-7P), with 36 hours per week and every other weekend. Travel nurses welcome; housing allowances, travel and licensure reimbursements are offered.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required.
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year.
• Strong IV skills and experience reading telemetry strips required.
• Strong time management skills required.
• Epic EMR experience required.
• Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care in a moderate to high stress environment.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration.
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN.

Responsibilities

• Acute Care for Elderly unit with 16 beds, typically at full census
• 12-hour day shift schedule (7A-7P), 36 hours per week
• Patient population includes geriatric patients (65+) with diagnoses including DM, GI, respiratory, renal conditions, and wound care
• Focus on mobilization with functional, community-dwelling patients
• Bed turnover rate of 3-4 patients
• RN to patient ratio of 5-6:1, CNA ratio of 8:1
• Centralized telemetry monitoring with strips signed each shift
• EMR: Epic
• IV Pump: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Omnicell
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to 8 Reynolds, 8 North, 9 North A/B, 9 Ardmore, 10 Ardmore, 8 North-B, and 8 Ardmore
• Level 1 Trauma Center and Academic Medical Center with 885 licensed beds
• Designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
• Unit supported by CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, educator, and OT/PT/ST
• Unit culture is patient-centered with a strong emphasis on teamwork and reliability
• Royal blue scrub color required
• Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Free employee parking available
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if they held a permanent position
