Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Pulmonary unit at a Level 1 trauma, magnet-designated facility. ACLS and IMC skills required, with BiPAP/CPAP and telemetry experience essential.

The role involves night shifts (36 hours/week) across 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend and holiday. Strong nursing judgment, multi-unit flexibility, and Epic EMR proficiency are expected.

Qualifications

• Active SD or compact RN license
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• IMC skill set required (trach/vent care)
• Experience with BiPap, CPAP, heated high flow and oxygen titration
• Telemetry monitoring and Medical-Surgical care including chest tubes, ABG interpretation, central line management, and post-procedural care
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• BSN and specialty certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Care on a 30-bed Medical Cardiopulmonary unit and 8-bed IMC unit
• Work at Level 1 trauma facility
• Handle pneumonia, COPD, CHF, pulmonary embolism, complex pulmonary cases requiring ventilation and monitoring
• Night shifts: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2-3 IMC; 1:4-5 day shifts; 1:5-6 night shifts
• Float to Med-Surg units; IMC RNs may work across units
• Provide oxygen therapy, IV meds, moderate sedation for bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, ventilation
• Collaborate with case managers, therapists, pharmacists; coordinate with pulmonary intensivists

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license required

• IMC skill set required, including trach/vent care and management
• Experience with BiPap, CPAP, heated high flow, and oxygen titration
• Experience with moderate sedation monitoring alongside ACLS
• Experience with cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone), Heparin drips, and Lasix administration
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and Medical-Surgical patient care including chest tubes, blood administration, ABG interpretation, central line management, and post-procedural care
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• BSN and specialty certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting on a 30-bed medical cardiopulmonary unit and an 8-bed intermediate/progressive care unit
• Level 1 trauma facility
• Patient population includes pneumonia, COPD, CHF, pulmonary embolism, and complex pulmonary cases requiring ventilation and cardiac monitoring
• Average length of stay is 4 days on the Medical Unit and 9 days in Pulmonary Acute
• Night shift schedule, 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3 in Pulmonary Acute for IMC-trained RNs, 1:4-5 on day shifts, and 1:5-6 on night shifts in Medical Cardiopulmonary
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps for IV fluids, and Omnicell for medications
• Floating required to Med-Surg units, with travelers prioritized for reassignment
• RNs with IMC skill sets may work in both the Medical Cardiopulmonary and IMC Pulmonary Acute units
• Provide patient care for a diverse cardiopulmonary population including oxygen therapy, IV medications, moderate sedation during bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and mechanical/non-invasive ventilation
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including case managers, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and physical therapists
• Work closely with pulmonary intensivists and hospitalist teams
• 3-day orientation includes competency validation, online modules, core competency checks, a precepted shift, and a 12-hour orientation shift on the unit
• Dress code requires blue scrubs and closed-toed shoes
• Facility is a Magnet-designated organization with opportunities to engage in unit-specific or hospital-wide committees
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
• Candidates with previous employment at this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
