Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring EKG competency and cardiac monitoring in a Level 1 trauma acute care setting in Arizona.

The role requires an active AZ/Compact RN license, 2+ years of RN experience, BLS/ACLS, and the ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam and sterile technique test on day 1 of orientation. Travel experience and references are essential.

Qualifications

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required, no pending licenses accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
• EKG competency required with pass/fail exam
• Cardiac monitoring experience and groin management skills required
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer (2 attempts max)
• Sterile Technique test on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation
• Two professional references: one supervisor (last 12 months) and one peer/supervisor (last 3 years)
• Traveler-friendly status; must reside >50 miles away; Navy blue scrubs; closed toe shoes

Responsibilities

• Work on a 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit in Level 1 trauma setting
• Maintain 4-5:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Interpret rhythm strips and identify rhythm changes
• Manage cardiac drips and monitor patient status
• Use Cerner EMR for documentation and GE cardiac monitors for monitoring
• Provide direct patient care with 24/7 RT support
• Floating within service line as needed, with supervision on orientation

Requirements

• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving offer (maximum 2 attempts)
• Must pass a Sterile Technique test on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

Responsibilities

• 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with all private rooms in a Level 1 trauma acute care facility
• Nurse to patient ratio of 4-5:1
• Common diagnoses include renal, GI, sepsis, and mental health cases
• Uses Cerner EMR and GE cardiac monitors
• RNs manage but do not titrate drips including Heparin, Lasix, Amiodarone, and Cardizem
• Remote monitor techs available, but RNs must interpret strips and identify rhythm changes
• RT available 24/7 to assist; RNs administer all breathing treatments (up to 6L, no high flow or BiPAP)
• Nurse aides available on day shift only; nights are primary patient care in 4:1 assignment
• Charge nurse without patient assignment on both day and night shifts; house supervisors in house 24/7
• Night shift schedule (1900-0730) with self-scheduling utilized
• Requires 3 weekend shifts per schedule period (night shift weekend is Fri/Sat)
• Holiday rotation required, including 2 major winter holidays and 1 major summer holiday
• Standby/on-call shifts required per facility expectations
• Floating required within service line and overflow areas, limited to skillset/level of care hired into
• Provide direct patient care on a busy telemetry unit including cardiac monitoring and drip management
• Complete 2 unit-specific orientation shifts with a preceptor
• Clinical interview required prior to offer; no manager interview
• Failure of dysrhythmia or sterile technique exams after 2 attempts results in ineligibility with this health system's AZ and Sacramento facilities for 6 months
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated with this health system within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Navy blue scrubs required, no t-shirts, closed toe shoes mandatory
• Travelers are highly regarded at this facility, with many returning or converting to core staff
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
