American Traveler, LLC. is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry unit in Illinois. Requires active IL licensure, EPIC EMR proficiency, and at least 1 year of surgical nursing experience, including total joint replacement.

This fast-paced unit features 48 beds across two buildings, night shifts 3x12s, no on-call, and a generous benefits package including housing allowance, licensure reimbursement, and travel incentives.

Qualifications

Active IL RN license required.
BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required.
Minimum 1 year of surgical nursing experience.
Total joint replacement experience required.
Experience with TPN/Lipids and narcotic administration.
Comfort titrating heparin and other drips per protocol.
EPIC EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

Inpatient Surgical unit on the 3rd floor with 48 beds across two buildings.
Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-6 on nights, with LPNs and virtual admission/discharge nurses available for support.
Primary care nursing model frequently used.
Night shift schedule with 3, 12-hour shifts starting at 7pm.
Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday for both shifts).
Holiday rotation required alongside core staff.
No call or standby requirement.
Float to like units only; if floated to a higher acuity unit, would serve as a help-all without taking a patient load.
Uses EPIC EMR, with a conversion occurring in Q2 2026.
Patient population includes neuro (laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI), general surgery (ostomies, hernia repair), joint replacements (total hips/knees), vascular (fem-pop bypass, dialysis catheter insertions), amputations (BKA/AKA), and diabetes management.
Common treatments include PICC lines, TPN/Lipids, PCA pumps, epidurals, IV antibiotics, and chronic pain management with narcotics
Manages urgent OR cases and sepsis patients
Tele monitor tech available to monitor patients; RNs responsible for interpreting their own strips
Draeger brand telemetry monitors used
Nurse aides available on the unit, though they may be pulled for sitter duties; night shift has greater CNA needs
Respiratory therapy manages CPAP, Airvo, and occasional BiPap equipment
Fast-paced unit with heavy patient acuity, averaging 8-12 surgical admissions per day alongside discharges
Charge nurse role typically filled by Blessing staff on day shift; house supervisor may fill this role on nights and takes a smaller assignment to assist the team
Schedules are released 6 weeks in advance; self-scheduling and block scheduling are not guaranteed
Unit and department-specific orientation includes one 12-hour shift on the hired shift and unit; first day may run 12-14 hours to complete competencies, computer modules, and general orientation
Black scrubs required
4 hours of billable computer modules must be completed prior to start, delivered the week before start date
