Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN for an Acute Medical Unit with telemetry patients in Illinois. Requires IL RN license, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and 1+ year of RN experience.

Night shift 3x12s (1900-0730), Mon-Fri, no on-call or weekends. Will float within service line; EKG skills and non-titrating drips are part of duties. Navy scrubs may be required; free parking on-site.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of consideration.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience in med/surg/telemetry.
• Experience with 1:5 patient ratios and telemetry care.
• Epic charting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work in an Acute Medical Unit treating Medical and Telemetry patients.
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (1900-0730), Monday-Friday.
• No on-call requirements.
• No weekend shifts required.
• Average daily census of 16-18 patients with 24 beds on the unit.
• Night shift staffing ratio of 1:5.
• Performs EKG rhythm identification and manages non-titrating cardiac drips.
• Epic charting preferred.
• Float required within service line and scope.
• Unit accepts first-time travelers.
• Provides pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care.
• Delivers neurological assessment for AIS and TIA patients.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with at least 1 year of experience and required BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications for an acute medical unit treating telemetry patients.

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience required
• Experience with 1:5 patient ratios
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and PICC line management
• Experience with blood product administration and arterial line management
• Respiratory care skills including oxygen administration, nasal cannula, and BiPAP/CPAP management preferred
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response/code teams
• Experience with isolation precautions, PPE, and wound care/wound vac preferred
• Neurological assessment experience, including care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and TIA patients
• Substance withdrawal and renal failure management experience preferred

• Performs EKG rhythm identification and manages non-titrating cardiac drips
• Epic charting preferred
• Float required within service line and scope
• Unit accepts first-time travelers
• Provides pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care for acute medical and telemetry patients
• Delivers neurological assessment and care for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and TIA patients
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking available on site
• Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for consideration
• No RTO allowed during the first week of assignment, with a maximum of 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
• Standard travelers may stay for up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
• Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this unit
