American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment on a busy Surgical Acute unit in Peoria, IL. An active IL RN license and at least 1 year of post-op and acute care experience are required, with BLS certification.

The unit handles post-op surgical and trauma cases with 4-5 patients on days and 5-6 on nights, using EPIC EMR. This traveler role includes housing and licensure reimbursement support, with travel-ready benefits.

Responsibilities

• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 days and 5-6:1 nights; may adjust to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights.
• Uses EPIC EMR for charting.
• 12-hour night shifts from 1930-0730; every other weekend and rotating holidays.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment on a busy Surgical Acute unit, requiring an active IL RN license and at least 1 year of experience.

Requirements

• Comfortable asking for help when needed, with a strong bedside manner and team player attitude

Responsibilities

• Surgical Acute unit in an acute care hospital setting with 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation)
• Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with potential increases to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts from 1930-0730
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Rotates every other holiday
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers float first to units with similar experience level; ICU RNs floating to general units take a team of 3 patients
• Dedicated charge RNs on each shift who do not take patient assignments, plus 24/7 house supervisor coverage
• PCTs support the unit with ratios of 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation
• No ventilator management required; CPAP and high flow are used, with RNs managing inhalers and CPAP placement while RT manages nebulizers
• Telemetry monitoring available with a central monitor station; bedside RNs are not required to read strips
• RNs are not required to titrate drips, though heparin is a common titratable drip on the unit
• Provide direct patient care for post-op surgical and overflow medical patients, including wound care and management of drains, central lines, and TPN
• Unit orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one additional 12-hour shift for EPIC training and professional orientation with a unit educator
• Any color scrubs accepted
