Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Adult Med/Surg Tele position in Maryland. The role requires telemetry and dysrhythmia management skills, and a minimum of one prior travel assignment.

Night shift is 7:00 PM–7:30 AM (3x12 hours) with every other weekend. Local candidates within 60 miles may qualify for a lower rate. Hospital setting with a busy Med/Surg Tele unit and diverse patient population.

Qualifications

• Active RN license - MD state license or compact license required.
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required within the last 7 years.
• Telemetry experience required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment.

Responsibilities

• Adult-only Med/Surg Tele unit in a hospital setting.
• Patient population includes diabetes, CHF, sepsis, COPD, general surgery, sickle cell crisis, GI bleed, diverticulitis, and general medicine/observation cases.
• Unit supports large orthopedic, colorectal, vascular, and bariatric programs.
• Patient ratio of 1:5.
• Uses telemetry monitoring and capnography equipment.
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
• Every other weekend coverage (6 weekends per 6 weeks).
• Float required within units of equivalent or lower acuity.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Adult Med/Surg Tele position requiring telemetry dysrhythmia management skills and a minimum of one prior travel assignment.

Requirements

• Active RN license - MD state license or compact license required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required within the last 7 years
• Telemetry experience required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment
• PALS certification not required; pediatric patient care not expected despite unit accommodating pediatric patients

Responsibilities

• Adult-only Med/Surg Tele unit in a hospital setting
• Patient population includes diabetes, CHF, sepsis, COPD, general surgery, sickle cell crisis, GI bleed, diverticulitis, and general medicine/observation cases
• Unit supports large orthopedic (total joints), colorectal, vascular, and bariatric surgical programs
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Uses patient lifts (ceiling and portable), CADD pump, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, and capnography equipment
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend coverage required (6 weekend shifts over 6 weeks)
• Float required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Caribbean Blue scrubs required and not provided
• Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, wound care/wound vac, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Additional skills utilized may include IV therapy, central/PICC line management, blood product administration, respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy), and renal/GI management
• Weekly orientation schedule
• Local candidates accepted within 60 miles at a lower rate
• Candidates must reside within 60 miles to qualify for local status, which must match the address on their driver's license
• Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; maximum 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract
