Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a rural hospital setting in Texas. The role requires 18+ months of telemetry experience and an active TX or Compact RN license with BLS certification.

The RN will care for Med/Surg Tele patients on a 25-bed unit with 5-6:1 ratios, reading telemetry strips and titrating IV drips. Night shifts are 12 hours (7p-7a) with weekend and holiday coverage, and EPIC is being implemented by 10/30/2026.

Qualifications

• Active TX or Compact RN license required.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele telemetry experience.
• Rural hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on Med/Surg Tele unit (K3) in a rural hospital.
• Titrate Heparin drips and monitor telemetry.
• Read telemetry strips with telemonitor tech support.
• Float to med/surg units and PCU as needed for tele holds.
• Work 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) on an every-other-weekend schedule and cover holidays.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 18+ months of recent telemetry experience and a TX or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification required (ACLS may be required)
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience required
• Rural hospital experience preferred
• Strong communication and time management skills required
• Ability to read telemetry strips required
• Two professional references required: one supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Tele unit (K3) in a rural hospital setting
• 25-bed unit with 5-6:1 patient ratios
• Common diagnoses include CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and med/surg telemetry cases
• RNs must be able to read telemetry strips; tele monitor techs assist with monitoring
• RNs titrate Heparin drips
• PCTs present at a 12:1 ratio; Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available for support
• Cares for CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow patients
• Uses Paragon charting system, transitioning to EPIC on 10/30/2026
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) on an every-other-weekend schedule
• Holiday coverage required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floats to all med/surg units and possibly to PCU for tele holds prior to transfer
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated; scheduling based on facility needs
• Provide direct patient care to Med/Surg Tele patients including monitoring, medication administration, and drip titration
• Work alongside tele monitor techs, PCTs, Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators
• Department orientation includes 2 shadow/orientation shifts
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year (PRN through outside firms is acceptable)
• Hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
