American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN with 2+ years of experience for a 13-week day-shift contract in Texas. Requires active TX or compact license, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and prior travel nursing experience. Responsibilities include 12-hour day shifts, 1:5 patient ratio, and telemetry monitoring in a hospital setting.

Candidate must be able to handle IV therapy, phlebotomy, respiratory management, and rapid response support, with travel housing and reimbursements available.

Qualifications

• Active TX or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience.
• Prior travel nursing experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide Med/Surg Tele care in a hospital setting.
• Work day shift: three 12-hour shifts weekly (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM).
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:5 and perform IV therapy and phlebotomy.
• Monitor cardiac telemetry; interpret dysrhythmias and support rapid response.
• Manage respiratory needs (BiPAP/CPAP, high flow, O2) and wound care.
• Oversee heparin protocols and blood product administration.
• Ensure isolation precautions and PPE are followed; complete required lab work.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with 2 years of experience and prior travel assignment history for a 13-week day shift contract.

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Altera charting system experience preferred but not required
• Central line care/management, PICC line management, and blood product administration skills preferred
• ABG interpretation and tracheostomy care/management skills preferred

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital setting
• Day shift schedule, three 12-hour shifts weekly (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Cares for patients requiring cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown, and CVA monitoring
• Performs IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care/management
• Manages respiratory needs including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Administers medications and manages heparin protocols
• Provides cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code team support
• Manages wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Provides pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Must complete facility-administered drug screen upon arrival, which includes marijuana testing; a positive result results in automatic cancellation
• Candidates should avoid any substances, including CBD products, that could result in a positive drug screen
• Must reside within 150 miles of the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Previous permanent staff must have separated from employment for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Must be available to complete required lab work within 72 hours of accepting an offer or provide a completion plan
• Orientation includes non-billable modules averaging 6-8 hours
• First-time travelers may be considered on an individual basis
