American Traveler, LLC. is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in Peoria, IL for a 13-week night assignment. Requires Level 1 trauma experience, travel RN background, and EPIC EMR proficiency.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required.
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required.
• Level 1 trauma center experience required.
• Prior travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered.
• Previous experience on a dedicated neuro unit required.
• Heparin drip titration experience required.
• Negative drug screen required for all panels.

Responsibilities

• Med-Surg neuro unit care for stroke, spine surgery, seizures and brain injuries.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios 1:4-5 days, 1:5-6 nights; float as needed.
• Telemetry monitoring and use of EPIC EMR for documentation.
• Titrate drips including heparin based on PTT; assist with vents/respiratory care.
• Provide direct patient care on nights; participate in unit orientation & handoffs.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring Level 1 trauma and prior travel nurse experience on a 13-week night shift assignment.

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma center experience required
• Prior travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Previous experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of a Drug-Free Campus policy

Responsibilities

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and general neuroscience cases with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Nursing aides/patient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurse only taking an assignment if unit is short-staffed and above ratio
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
• RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required in rotation with staff; general unit travelers float to general unit floor, with urgent floats limited to competent skills and paired with a unit-trained nurse
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Provide direct patient care to neuroscience patients including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, and head injury cases
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow as needed
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
• Unit orientation consists of 2 days with an educator covering computer systems and unit-specific training, followed by 1 day of patient care with a preceptor
• Cancellation policy allows up to 12 hours off per 13-week assignment without penalty
• Local candidates are accepted
