Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking a Med/Surg Float RN for an ED Holding unit. Requires travel nursing experience and 2+ years in MS/Tele or ER holding units. NC or Compact RN license, BLS and NIHSS; CPI preferred.

Night shifts are 18:45–07:15 on 4x12 schedules, with 36–48 hour contracts and some longer terms through 02-27-2027; weekends every other week; local candidates within 50 miles may earn a lower rate.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required.
• Current BLS and NIHSS certification required; CPI certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in MS/Tele or ER holding unit.
• Travel nursing experience required; PCU experience preferred.
• Experience with IV therapy, central and peripheral line care, and blood products.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients in the ED Holding unit awaiting inpatient beds.
• Staff MS/Tele patients at 1:6-1:7 and PCU at 1:3-1:4 ratios.
• Night shift: 4x12 hours, 18:45-07:15.
• Float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed; no on-call requirements.
• Unit orientation is 12 hours; charting via Epic.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float RN for an ED Holding unit requiring prior travel experience and 2+ years of MS/Tele or ER holding experience.

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
• Current BLS and NIHSS certification required; CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• MS/Tele and ER holding unit experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• PCU experience preferred
• Experience with IV therapy, central and peripheral line care, and blood product administration
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and telemetry
• Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and oxygen administration preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Must be able to keep up with a fast-paced, high-acuity unit

Responsibilities

• Work in the ED Holding unit (EDIP), caring for patients awaiting inpatient beds within the Emergency Department
• Patients may present with any medical/surgical adult diagnosis, including some PCU-level acuity
• Staff MS/Tele patients at a 1:6-1:7 ratio and PCU patients at a 1:3-1:4 ratio
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
• 36 and 48 hour contracts accepted, with longer contracts considered through 02-27-2027
• Every other weekend required
• Float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Uses cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other standard monitoring equipment
• Charting and communication via Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR
• Unit orientation is 12 hours
• Care for patients awaiting inpatient placement who may present with any medical/surgical adult diagnosis
• May be required to participate in Storm Team or Hurricane Team coverage, including reporting during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
• Navy scrubs required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved per contract, excluding holidays; no RTO during the first week of assignment
• All RTO must be pre-approved and cannot be requested after signing
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status
• Unit experiences high turnover and all candidates will be interviewed prior to placement
