Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with 2+ years of MS/Tele experience for a short-term acute care hospital setting.

Floats across medical, surgical, oncology, neuro, cardiology, and renal units with day shifts and weekend rotations. NIHSS preferred; navy blue scrubs required for daily use.

Qualifications

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence for compact).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele nursing experience.
  • IV start and telemetry experience required.
  • Must be clean-shaven for respirator fit testing.

Responsibilities

  • Floats within the Med/Surg service line across units.
  • Patient ratios 1:5-6 days; 1:6 nights; 3x12 hour day shifts.
  • Work weekends and holidays; no on-call requirements.
  • Use EPIC for charting and patient care documentation.
  • Employ proper lift devices and PPE; rotate as needed.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with 2+ years of MS/Tele experience and ACLS/BLS certification for a short-term acute care hospital setting.


Requirements
  • Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence for compact)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele nursing experience required
  • IV start and telemetry experience required
  • Skilled in central and peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and telemetry remote monitoring
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
  • Experience with feeding tube care, HFNC, and PCA preferred
  • Must be clean-shaven or have facial hair allowing for proper respirator fit testing

Responsibilities
  • Floats within the Med/Surg service line, including medical, surgical, oncology, neuro, cardiology, and renal units
  • Patient ratios of 1:5-6 on days and weekends and 1:6 on nights
  • Day shift schedule of 3x12 hour shifts (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
  • Required to work every other weekend or a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus holiday rotation
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses EPIC charting system
  • Utilizes lift devices, ceiling lifts, and bladder scanners (training provided)
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this role
  • Provides direct patient care across multiple medical specialty units based on daily staffing needs
  • Receives unit assignment via call-in up to 1 hour before scheduled shift start when in float pool
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • No block scheduling accommodations available
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • Does not accept local candidates within a 75-mile radius
  • Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
  • Former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any facility within the health system as a traveler
