Job summary
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Neuro unit in Wilmington, NC. Requires 2+ years of RN experience and an NC or compact RN license. Nights, 4x12hrs, 48 hrs/wk, 13-week assignment begins Sep 28, 2026. Floating, 1:6 patient ratio, EPIC/Pyxis/SBAR in use, and potential storm team deployment.
Travelers may be eligible for competitive pay and comprehensive benefits; local candidates within 50 miles may be offered a lower rate.
Qualifications
- Active NC or compact RN license required.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- NIHSS certification preferred.
- Prior charge nurse experience or willingness to learn the role preferred.
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical-surgical nursing care with emphasis on neurological patients including CVA cases.
- Use a teamwork approach focused on patient safety.
- 24-hour unit orientation provided.
- Navy blue scrubs required.
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Neuro unit requiring 2 years of experience and a NC or compact RN license.
- Neuro unit within a Med/Surg setting focused on general medicine with a neurological patient focus
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- 36 or 48 hour weekly options accepted
- Every other weekend requirement (5-6 weekend shifts per schedule)
- Floating required, with travelers floated first
- Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification preferred
- Prior charge nurse experience or willingness to learn the role preferred
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management preferred
- Experience with telemetry and MS/Tele settings preferred
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line management skills required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Provide medical-surgical nursing care with an emphasis on neurological patients including CVA cases
- Use a teamwork approach focused on patient safety
- 24-hour unit orientation provided
- Navy blue scrubs required and not provided by facility
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
- Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
