Job summary
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in Winston-Salem, NC. Requires NC or compact license, 2+ years’ nursing with 1 year Med/Surg, and prior travel contract experience. BLS and NIHSS are required; ACLS preferred. You will float to MS/Tele areas and manage stroke/neuro diagnoses with Epic/PYXIS/SBAR charting.
Shifts are Nights, 3x12s, with 36 hours/wk minimum and 13-week contracts. Local candidates within 50 miles may be considered at a reduced rate.
Qualifications
- Active NC or compact RN license (or pending)
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience with at least 1 year in Med/Surg
- 2+ travel contracts completed prior to applying
- BLS and NIHSS certifications; ACLS preferred
- Experience with IV starts and telemetry
- Epic charting experience required
- Cardiac and vasoactive drip management experience
Responsibilities
- Provide care for Med/Surg Tele patients with stroke, neurosurgery, and neuro diagnoses
- Float to other MS/Tele areas as needed, including potential COVID care units
- Maintain patient ratios of 1:6 and ensure safety on night 3x12 shifts
- Operate PYXIS, Epic, and SBAR charting systems; participate in unit orientation
- Manage dysrhythmias and monitor telemetry and IV lines
- Adhere to RTO policies and holidays as required

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring NC or compact license and prior travel contract experience.
- Med/Surg Tele unit caring primarily for stroke, neurosurgery, and other neurological diagnoses such as epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas
- Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with training provided as needed
- 42 daily census with 43 rooms/beds
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-7:15)
- Option for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, potentially including COVID care units
- Frequent floating may be required
- Uses PYXIS, Epic, and SBAR charting systems
- 36-hour unit orientation
- Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience (must be specifically Med/Surg, not Med/Surg-Tele)
- Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts prior to applying
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Experience with IV starts and telemetry
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Epic charting experience required
- Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drip management
- Provide care for stroke, neurosurgical, and other neurological patients including epilepsy and traumatic brain injury cases
- Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Weekly orientation schedule
- Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and repeated annually
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Additional RTO requests after signing are not accepted
- Missed weekend shifts due to call-offs will need to be made up based on unit needs
- Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with own transportation
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler
- Local candidates accepted at a reduced rate within 50 miles of the facility
