Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg-Tele RN to cover ED Holds at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital in Charlotte, NC. A minimum of 2 years Med/Tele experience and NIHSS certification are required, along with an active NC or Compact RN license, BLS and ACLS.

The assignment is 36 hours per week, days shift, for 13 weeks, with travel stipends and benefits. Free parking is provided; navy scrub color is required; start dates vary based on credentialing.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg-Tele RN to cover ED Holds in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital emergency department requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience and NIHSS certification.

Details
  • Emergency Department setting within a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • 874 licensed beds with the ED containing 43 ED beds and 20 boarding beds
  • Primarily covers ED Holds as a Med/Tele RN
  • Patient population includes trauma (GSW, stabbing, MVA, falls), stroke, heart failure, chest pain, COPD, ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, mental health, respiratory illness, GI disorders, liver failure, and AKI/CKD
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 max (acuity dependent), CNA ratio 1:7
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; RNs read monitors and respond directly
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements for travelers
  • Floating required within Region 1, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, any Freestanding ED within Region, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH)
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
Requirements
  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele nursing experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core experience in the specialty unit, with recent experience within the last year
  • Level I Trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • General Med/Tele skillset including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley), and PCA pump management
  • Medication drip management experience including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care to ED Hold patients requiring Med/Tele level monitoring and intervention
  • Support staff includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT team, resource nurse as available, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 RTO days may be approved, excluding holidays, with contract extension required if hours are not met
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel rate
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
